This is the second book I've read by this writer and although she may not be the world's most gifted writer in terms of applying language, she definitely rates high in the area of story twists and turns, and in presenting interesting situations. Who would have ever thought to have a young lady abandon a baby, then steal the baby back, then return the baby? That is in a nutshell the storyline for this book. It makes for a page-turning read but it sure makes it hard to root for all of the characters. But, luckily in that area too the writer excels. I wanted to hate the young lady who played tug of war with her child, but the author painted her situation with such emotional depth, I couldn't. So I shifted my hate to the immature boy who got her pregnant and that felt redemptive. I couldn't however muster empathy for the adopted mother; the author lost me with that one. I wanted to like her. I wanted her to have the fairy tale ending, but I was so disappointed with her passivity concerning the hunt for her adopted son that I wasn't sure she deserved baby David. Overall, I felt this was a good book. Not the best I've read but far from the worst. Will I read anything else by this author? Probably. Her up and down plots make her books nice, weekend reads.Product details

For the Love of David eBook Laurel Bradley Reviews
I loved this book. It draws you in. It surprises you when you don't think there is more you can take.
Read it! Cry with it!
LOVED LOVED LOVED this book!
I received an advance copy and I am SO glad I did.
This book is about a woman that has a baby, but doesn't want it, and a woman who finds the baby and wants it. Simple story. Dual POV - which I loved.
When you first read about the book, you think that you are going to instantly hate the birth mother, after all, who could do that. But when you step back, remember that this book is set in the 1980's - and so many things have changed since then. You also get a feeling for what each of these women were thinking as they made their decisions. You start to find yourself rooting for both of them, but you know that can't happen.
I was very tired when I finally finished this book (about 4am), and I was VERY upset at the ending. But after getting some sleep, I feel like the ending was perfect.
I found this to be an awesome book, and I have even asked my daughter to take it to school for her "free reading time" (she is in high school, and mature enough for this subject matter).
Marissa is a college student and becomes pregnant. Her boyfriend isn't supportive and leaves her on her own at the first hint that she may be pregnant. She is scared to tell anybody and is able to keep her pregnancy a secret and delivers the baby in her dorm room. She then has to get rid of the baby in order to keep her secret so she leaves David in a duffel bag in the grocery store parking lot. Libby finds David and takes him in as if he is her own son. She loves this baby boy with all her heart and she finally feels like her life has a reason. Then one night, Marissa finds David and steals him back from Libby.
I really felt for Libby in this story. She finds David and takes care of him, loves him with everything she has and to me that's what makes a mother, not just who brings you into this world. It's a really tough situation though because you can also understand how Marissa feels. She feels like it's her second chance and if she really wants to step up and be a mother to her son you can kind of understand why she took him. But you also feel bad for Libby because she's been a mother to this child and loved him SO much. I was really rooting for Libby throughout the book and I was really interested in how it would all play out. I liked the way this book ended. If this sounds like something you would be interested in then I would definitely check it out! What are your thoughts?
Marissa Fleming is a bright, pretty college coed on a clear path toward success. Libby Armstrong is an overweight receptionist with a gentle heart and a quiet, lonely life. The two women have nearly nothing in common, but they become profoundly connected when a distraught and desperate Marissa secretly gives birth to a baby boy.
When Libby notices movement from an abandoned duffle bag outside a grocery store, she assumes someone has left a litter of kittens out in the cold to die. When she unzips the bag and finds a newborn within, she knows that she should turn him into the authorities. However, after experiencing a childhood in foster care herself, Libby can't give up the baby to the system. She takes the baby home, claims him as her own and names him David.
David proves to be a blessing for Libby, adding wonderment and joy to her life. While she blossoms with the calling of motherhood, Marissa is wracked with uncertainty and regret. Did she do the right thing? Should she have kept the baby? If she could find him again, what would she do?
Libby's discovery and adoption of David is just the beginning of a finely-written, deeply moving story about two very different women struggling, rejoicing and regretting the choices that they've made.
Author Laurel Bradley deftly captures the emotional turmoil that both Libby and Marissa experience, and, following in the footsteps of Jodi Picoult, paints her story in countless shades of gray. In particular, I was impressed with how skillfully Bradley wrote the impulsive Marissa, keeping her sympathetic and understandable even as she first abandoned her son and then committed an even more painful and dangerous act later in the book.
For The Love Of David captured me from the first page. It was a joy to watch how David transformed Libby's life, bringing friendships, love and self-acceptance. A big twist in the middle of the book had my heart racing for both the main protagonists.
I can't recommend this book enough. For The Love Of David will appeal to anyone who has ever lost or given away something precious and wished there was a way to reclaim that treasure once again.
