Agatha has loved Zayne for years until two years ago when he left town to marry a woman no one wanted him to marry. Agatha decides it's time she forgets about Zayne and moves on with her career as a reporter. Two years later, there is someone who wants Agatha dead. She also unexpectedly finds Zayne, but he's a mess, so she tries to save him. The story wasn't quite as good as the other ones in this series. It may just be my personal preference, but it seemed to drag a bit at times for me. Agatha's personality grated on my nerves because she seemed to do things without considering the ramifications to herself and to others. It was sometimes too much like a slapstick comedy, which isn't my favorite thing. Zayne is way too dense when it comes to women. He actually comes across as a bit stupid and definitely not quite the hero type. Still, the story is well written and the characters are well developed, so I'm giving it 4 stars.Tags : A Match of Wits [Jen Turano] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. A Match of Wits Jen Turano 9780764211270 Books Reviews
Jen Turano has a number of books about a New York society in the 1800s focusing on several families. Basically the young women in this society get themselves in situations and the young men rescue them, they fall in love finally and get married. All of them have witty dialog, funny situations and even physical comedy at times.
This one is similar, however the woman (Agatha) rescues the man (Zayne)... then he rescues her and then love... after much turmoil.
I still say the first one, A Change of Fortune was the best. I smiled through the others, but laughed out loud in that one.
This is book four of the series and each one is better than the one before! This was such an exciting and funny story. The series was so fun to read. Agatha is quite the character and Zayne the target of her affection. But, he sure is dense headed and slow to figure out love. Agatha is so adventuresome and drags along a cast of characters in this unbelievably rip-roaring and funny story. Get ready for it and allow plenty of time to read and you will take a deep breath of satisfaction at the end.
Finally the romance that has been lurking throughout the series is in action. The intrepid reporter Agatha has traveled to the Wild West after death threats over her articles in New York. And who does she stumble upon but the love of her life, the clueless Zayne. Dangers follow as the two eventually return to New York City to confront their past and create a new future. Absolutely great series with action, humor, character growth, family unity, love, friendship, and a close relationship with God.
You've gota love a book when the heroine has a pet P-I-G named Matilda! This is the fourth (I think) book in the serious. They've all been great books. Laugh-out-loud funny. This one may have been the funniest because of Matilda. All the characters from books one-three are in this book (my favorite part of a series). It was great catching up with them. Having read the prior books you knew this would be a good book. Agatha, the heroine, just can't stay out of trouble. And what's not to like about Zatne, our hero? Well, except his initial stupidly. You don't have to read the prior books to enjoy this book, but I would encourage you too. I'm really hopeful that there will be more books in this series. Jen Turano is a great story teller!
The first three books in this series are well written and entertaining. A Match of Wits is a hugh disappointment to me. The characters personalities have changed so much from the previous books. Agatha is annoying, and talks nonstop, Mr. Blackheart's character has gone from the strong silent type to mean and borderline verbally abusive, while Zayne jumps right in the little put down's and arguments directed towards Agatha. The back and fourth bickering was difficult to stay with. I don't believe that this book should have been released this way, or given a price of $9.99. I
I loved the first few books of the series. After the second, I eagerly looked to see who the next one was about, hoping it was Agatha. No! Agatha was the last book! I would persevere til I got to her story! So I read the one about Arabella and LOVED it. Read the one about Felicia and started to get a little bored with the same style but enjoyed the outlandish humor. Finally arrived at this one and...although there are funny ridiculous parts, it was painful. All the characters sound the same and act completely unrealistic. The characters think or say everything the author wants to be conveyed--nothing is implied or shown, it's all said. I loved the idea of the plot--even the P-I-G and especially Piper--but it was not the best in the series.
I've been binge reading this series and had to comment. I will start off that all of the books have me giggling and laughing and excited and I breeze through them. That said, there's a definite formula going on that's making things rather predictable. When I start the next series by this author, I hope to find some more variety. But it's basically, present the injuries of both parties, somebody ends up in jail (something that happens in every single book and, though very predictable, the scene is somewhat entertaining. Not so much in this book as in the others). Guy makes a stupid proposal. Girl sulks and guy is stupid for a while until the climax crisis and rescue scene after which they get engaged and quickly married. IF you've read one book, you have read the basic story of all of them, but the variety of personalities and such make it fun and worth going through. It may not be as mysterious as some of my favorite books, but the humor makes up for the predictability imo. Entertaining for sure
