Don't get me wrong, it's a very readable book and like all the Heart books is woven around a romance that comes out well in the end. But I'm finding the lack of genetic knowledge, especially now that the ship's computer is available, a bit odd and tiresome.

The basic romance has a lot of trials and tribulations and some odd personality clashes but, overall, comes together nicely. Robin knows how to tell a story and it shows. There are parts that I find jarring mainly because I also read what is called "Hard Science Fiction" and I have trouble suspending belief in certain areas and ignoring the fact that if they'd been able to build a generational ship they'd have had the smarts about artificial insemination and the science to figure out the why's of the low birth-rate as soon as the ship's computer became available.

Oh well, even with these caveats, I liked the book and will continue to read the series. But—unlike other series—I'm not bothering to go back and read the series from the beginning before reading the newest installment.

All of the Celta series are between 4 and 5 stars to me, but I must admit that the self-centred attitudes of the two main characters in this particular installment took some time for me to get over. I admit, I personally like it better when the main obstacle between the couple is external, rather than being mostly internal as this book was. Hence, four stars - my actual rating is more like 4-1/4 stars.
Hate to be nit-picky but I have a hard time buying books that have stupid covers, and unfortunately, this is one of them. I have never hesitated to buy a Robin Owens title until this one, and it's funny because not only is the cover dorky, but the story (as stated in other reviews) is not one of her better ones. You could, in fact, skip this one and pick up the next one and not miss much. It is just...well...okay. That said, I hope they get back to the original illustrator for the covers. I also look forward to getting the next installment!
Fully disclosed -- I am a HUGE fan of Robin Owens and especially her Heart series. I read this book in print when it first came out and since then have purchased for the App as well as an audio version. I love how the two main characters, both very strong-willed, career-minded individuals overcame everything thrown at them to discover their life together. I recommend this entire series wholeheartedly!
This book had a more intricate plot then some of the others and it took the reader outside the main city and into other parts of the country. I am re-reading the series and this particular Celta story just seems to have more substance. The cat fams, however, are not up to snuff with some of the earlier ones.
Ok I admit it..I love romance and I am HOOKED on this series. I can't believe somehow I missed this authors books. I like they way they somehow try to avoid their fate then try and find out they are not complete without each other. So being the read-a-holic I am I had to scour all the bookstores and to find them all. I'm not going to give away the plot for you, readers, if you have found them get all and sit back and enjoy an amazing love story. Now I am waiting for the next installment can't wait for it!
Don't let the mismatched cover fool you. This isn't about a half-naked guy living in the wilds of Celta. It's about Del, Celta's premiere cartographer, a tough, independent, career-oriented older woman who's returned from one of her yearlong mapping journeys to discover a family tragedy is about to change her life forever. Adding to her problems, the young man who is her intended HeartMate, Raz, is a polished, urban actor - definitely a city person - while she's more at home in the wilds. Raz is nearing the height of his stage career, and applause can be as addictive as falling in love. Some tough decisions are ahead for these two star-crossed lovers, and maybe death as Del learns predators come in human form in the city as murder and threats against Raz and his family add complexity to the story. Fans of the Celta series will enjoy being immersed once more into a world full of Flair users (magic), telepathic animals, sentient residences, and landscape globes, along with tantalizing info about the original colonists and the three multi-generational spaceships that brought them from Earth. A fascinating world full of romantic characters who readers will enjoy spending time with. It's always good to come home to Celta.
