I don't even no where to begin to explain to you all how absolutely amazing this book is! I am floored that this is B.L.'s debut book! It was so well written and she tells such a amazing story! There is so much that I want to say but I'll hold off because I want you all to have the experience that I did reading this book and falling in love with these characters. Be prepared because the moment you open the book you will be so drawn in and consumed! You wont want to put it down. You will fall hard for these characters and root for them. Ladies you will have a new book boyfriend that you will be swooning over! It was refreshing because it was a different type of love story and you won't know what will happen until the end. Or will we really know what happens? It doesn't end with a cliff hanger but it does leave you wondering and wanting another book. Please do yourselves a favor and read this book! I will be honest. It took a little while for me to get into the book, but once I did, I wasn't disappointed. I predicted one of the major plot points early on, but it was fun waiting for the ball to drop. The other one I had some thoughts about, but didn't quite predict how it played out.

BL Berry certainly can write abhorrent characters- coming from the wonderful family life that I have, I couldn't relate to her experiences, but I could certainly despise her mother and sister.

This book was chalk-full of angst, emotion, and heart. I found myself laughing out loud at some of the things that Ivy said, probably because I could imagine myself saying them. My absolute favorite line had to be "I'm not spitting profanity at you," I say in the most pleasant tone I can summon. "I'm enunciating it. Loud. And. F$!?ing. Clear. Like a g**damned lady." I enjoyed Ivy, I enjoyed Phoenix, and I enjoyed them together. I'm looking forward to reading more about them and their relationship. Thank you, BL Berry, for a great read!

You never know what to expect when you try out a new author, but B.L. Berry doesn’t disappoint. This story is both attention grabbing and beautifully written. It had a great mix of humor, pain, and heartwarming moments.

The beginning pulled me in and I didn’t stop reading until it was over!

The characters were great. Ivy was funny, quirky, honest, and strong. She was completely relatable and not the normal shy virgin looking for her prince. She’s not perfect and accepts her flaws. She was definitely not without her frustrating moments and had some falls along the way, but showed a lot of growth. And then there was Phoenix…. Ahhhhh Phoenix (insert swooning here)… I’m just grinning thinking about him. I absolutely adored him. He did so many things that just made my heart melt.

I loved the relationship between Ivy and Phoenix. Part of their relationship was long-distance, so we got a lot of fun emails, phone calls, and text that I loved. The long distance really gave them a chance to develop their relationship instead of it being centered only around sex.

In addition to Phoenix and Ivy’s relationship there was also another fun relationship in this read. Ivy and Rachel. The crazy and loveable best friend used to be a staple in New Adult reads, but I’ve been missing them lately. I loved her and Ivy’s friendship. Everyone needs a Rachel in their life, especially Ivy with the horrendous family she was given. If there was such a thing as a “swoony” best friend it would be Rachel.

Overall, this was a great read full of laughter, pain, and a few unpredictable twist!

I met BL Berry at Penned Con last year just before this gem was published, and I knew from meeting her that anything she wrote would be entertaining. She's just that kind of person creative, witty, funny, and a little shocking. I bought this book when it came out, but (shame on me) I just now read it. Once I started it, though, I finished it in six hours and couldn't put it down. I forgot to eat dinner and call my mother, both things I needed to do, but I just couldn't put the darn thing down.
When I first met Ivy, she wasn't the type of character I normally like, but she was in a transitional phase, and I was all for giving this girl a chance. I'm very glad I did, because I really liked the girl she became throughout this book. She showed a lot of personal growth, and I liked that... but as much as this book really is about Ivy, to me, this book is alllllll about Phoenix.
I feel in love with Phoenix in Chapter 2. People complain about instalove, but damn it, it was instalove with me and Phoenix. When they were dancing under the oak trees, I fell in love with him... at this very moment, in fact "Phoenix rests his forehead against mine, eyes cutting right through to my soul, and I hear a soft groan escape the back of his throat." I don't know why it was that moment, but it just was. I get chills.
And I never wavered, either. There were moments when Ivy had doubts, but I didn't. I trusted him. I just wanted to believe he was pure and good, and I loved the book, because I let myself live in that little bubble. Their love story is beautiful. It's a long distance romance, a slow burn... a sweet love. It's different, and I loved it.
Ivy and Phoenix struggle to deal with difficult family situations... both very different, but painful in their own ways. This brings them together, but also eventually forces them apart in a way you never see coming. And then there's the ending... that ending that made me accept a tiny little shred of concern about my sweet Phoenix. Maybe he's not quite the man I thought he was... but he just *has* to be!!! [Insert tantrum here.]
BL Berry is an inventive writer. She uses music and art and distinctive imagery to tell her story. This book never lagged and I never got bored. I cried at some parts and laughed out loud at others. She truly knows how to keep her plot moving forward and her characters interesting.
