It is a heart wrenching story of an unloved wife to a kind husband. Their relationship is no more than just best friends and good business partners. Still I can't believe a wife could discuss, or would want to discuss with her husband about his affairs with other women no matter how just good friends they are. No matter their relationship is just platonic (or that's what in this case they are trying to make it to be) the fact that they are married, discussing each other's relationships with other partners is just insulting. So I don't think anybody would want to do that. But that's what going on in this story and you would have suspend your belief a bit.Tags : Ravishing the Heiress (The Fitzhugh Trilogy) [Sherry Thomas] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Ravishing the Heiress The Fitzhugh Trilogy Sherry Thomas 9780425250877 Books Reviews
I have read a lot of Historical Novels in the past year and it was so refreshing to read one where the plot was different. You have two young teenage people forced to marry each other and during those 8 years their marriage grows into friendship and much more, yet neither one will admit it because of their agreement before marriage. Millie desired Fitz and He loved Isabella his childhood sweetheart. She knew this and in turn agreed to the marriage with one condition..they would not have a marriage in the true sense and they would not sleep together for 8 years. Millie even went so far as to tell Fitz that she loved another as well. Fitz started to desire his wife early in the marriage (ex..London when they had to share a bed..lol) but he assumed his wife desired another and she kept him at a distance. You had two people who became best friends who really got to know each other and fell in love with each other before having sex...you very seldom find that kind of friendship between the sexes in Historical Romance novels. You have a guy who was young and inexperienced who thought himself in love with a girl who grew up and found true love with another.
3.5 stars. This book could have easily been a five star read if it wasn't for the annoying flashbacks, and secondary characters taking valuable time away from the hero and heroine. I loved the story-line. It was unique for the leads to agree to wait eight years before consummating their marriage and for the hero to live his life as if he wasn't married. It made things very interesting when they finally came together. The hero being in love with another woman that loved him was angst driven frustration, and it kept me glued to the pages.
The problem was that I felt like I didn't get enough of the hero and heroine's story in the present time. I would have like to have seen more of that. Even though we were given the flashbacks it felt like you didn't really know them as a couple. I also didn't see the need to have so much time taken away from them and allot to Helena and Hasting when it's a sure thing that they are going to have their own book. The ending wasn't satisfying, and I think it suffered because of all the disruptions. I did enjoy the story apart from all the interruptions though and like always, I will look forward to ST's next installment.

A lovely tribute to the great book A Civil Contract. The hero is kind but mourning the loss of his childhood sweetheart. The heroine, who views herself as the usurper, loves him.
It is heart wrenching for everyone involved. This version has a satisfying happily ever after, more fictional than the bittersweet A Civil Contract.
I highly recommend it but be warned. You will need a tissue.
Sherry Thomas is a new author for me. I hadn't read any of her books. The story line in Ravishing the Heiress was okay. Fathers in 1888 with wealth wished to have a son-in-law with a title. It was irritating to read present to past throughout the book. Then the prologue was about Helen Fitzhugh and Hastings. I wished there were more about Lord Fitzhugh and Millie. Fitz and Millie were the main characters. At times, it didn't feel as though they were the main characters. Helen Fitzhugh is Lord Fitzhugh's twin sister who was ingrained for the next book in the series.
Lord Fitzhugh, at nineteen, inherited his title and debts from his cousin who recently died. Fitz is under-aged. He has a guardian, Colonel Clements. The Colonel made a business arrangement with Mr. Graves for his sixteen- year-old daughter Millie, an Heiress, to married Fitz. Mr. Graves will have a son-in-law with a title and Lord Fitzhugh's debts are all paid up plus money for him to do as he pleases.
Being forced to married, Millie and Fitz made a pack and agreed that in eight-years, they will consummate their marriage. In the meantime, Fitz can have all the mistresses he can handle. Fitz wasn't ready to settle down and have children at nineteen. Millie was too young to bear children. After eight-years and Fitz has an heir, Millie and Fitz will go their separate ways. Divorce is out of the question. Then Fitz can pursue his childhood love.
After Millie and Fitz had been married eight-years, they developed a unique kind of platonic friendship. Over the years, Fitz has come to trust Millie with her opinion on business or someone to vent to. Millie is the only one he trusts for advice. They are best friends. Millie is an intelligent, soft spoken, classy lady and she was secretly in love with Fitz the moment they were introduced eight-years ago.
I am amazed that I was able to finished Ravishing the Heiress. There were many time when I wanted to stop. The first several chapters were rather confusing. I wasn't sure where the author was going. Then, I realized she was going from present to past the entire novel. The author would have done a lot better if she had stay on track inside of bouncing around.
